the first snow came
hard
before all the leaves had fallen
no red, orange and yellows
some still cling
lifeless
ghostly green
to the branch

Wellington, New Zealand (which almost never sees snow) is presently enjoying a beautifully warm and pleasant early summer … but your poem conveyed a sense of your sadness and disappointment. Thanks for sharing once again.
this snow was big – about a foot – and unexpectedly early – and it has left the trees I live in looking a little beat-up, different than a regular autumn. so it does bring the image of something being crushed versus having time to leave gracefully.
And, although I can write about my sense of sadness, my sense of sadness is not me. ie I’m good.
Thanks for your (always) insightful comment. It’s good to know the work communicates.
